Over 1 billion people use Facebook.

Facebook realized soon afterward that they can easily learn how we consume content.

Here we are today where Facebook has more data on the general public than almost any other company.

Once Facebook adopted advertising as a means of monetization, they put all this together and realized they needed people to stay on Facebook as long and as much as possible.

What they've found out is that video matters. A LOT.

So much so that marketers (including us) have realized that over the next few years companies that leverage video will succeed online and those that don’t will struggle.

If you're still reading, you're probably here because you're curious to know just how important video could be your business. But if you're still unconvinced what all the fuss is about here are a few simple statistics that will blow your mind.

  1. More video is uploaded online in one month than what has been created on TV in 3 decades.
  2. 9% of marketers say video marketing is the best form of content for ROI. (Hubspot)
  3. 45% of people watch one hour of Facebook or YouTube videos a day. (WordStream)

So now you know why it's important to buy your video marketing ticket and jump on the train. We don't want you to miss the next stop, so we're starting with the first one: Creating a Video Script.

Ask yourself these questions when you get ready to sit down and write your first script!

  1. What should your video be about?

Your video can be about a few different things. What is your product or service you are selling? What problem does your product/service solve for your customer? How does your product/service save the day?

Once you answer these questions, use them to your advantage. The more reasons you can give your customers to do business with you the better!

  1. How do you structure your video?

Structuring your video is pretty simple. At the beginning of the video, you need to identify what your customer's problem is and also what you do or sell that can solve the problem.

The middle of the video should explain how you solve your customer's pain and how your product or service saves the day!

At the end, you want to tell your audience why they should choose you over your competition. Why is your product better? Show the value of your business and then close with a call to action, telling them exactly what the next steps are to get in touch with you.

  1. Who is your audience for this video?

Identifying your audience early on allows you to tailor your video to specific customers. Generic videos have their place in the world, but your business is centered on sales, so you need to generate warm leads to keep your customers flowing through the door.

By tailoring your video to a specific audience, you are setting your business up for success. Your sales team will have warmer leads, and you'll be talking to a particular individual who is at least slightly interested in doing business.

  1. How long should your script be?

Your script should not be any longer than it needs to be. Attention spans are short and the shorter the video, the better, but you don't want to leave out relevant information that is necessary to make a purchasing decision.

On average your video should be somewhere between 60-90 seconds depending on the content. This length of time is the best for maintaining retention rates.

  1. What is your call-to-action?

A call-to-action is a statement that you make at the end of your video that tells your audience exactly what they need to do next. Do your clients need to pick up the phone and schedule an appointment? Do your customers need to send in a contact form for you to call them at a later time?

Tell your customers exactly what they need to do to avoid any confusion. All great call-to-action statements are clear and straightforward giving the customer a clear path to your door.

When writing a script for your first video, you can experience some trial and error. Avoid script writing mistakes by keeping your script short and sweet, defining your target audience before sitting down to write, and avoiding the oversell in your video.
